Mrs. Monica S. Zimmer's Obituary
Monica Zimmer, age 96, of St.Clair, went to heaven Wednesday, September, 26, 2012. She was born June 3, 1916 in Lima, Ohio to the late Earl and Jeanie Simons. An only child, Monica moved with her family to Detroit, and then to St. Clair. In St. Clair she met and married George Zimmer at St. Mary's Catholic Church and raised two sons, Stephen and Alan, who were her pride and joy.
Living most of her life in St. Clair, Monica worked for Thompson Furniture in St. Clair for 26 years. Monica was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and a former member of the Daughters of Isabella. She valued attending church services, participating in and later listening to the choir, and had a particular fondness for the organ and singing. Monica also cherished family gatherings and never missed an opportunity to get everyone together for a family photo. And, while she loved Michigan, she did truly enjoy her winters in St. Petersburg, Florida with her friends who shared her love of dancing, her passion for playing cards, and her daily walks to church.
She is survived by her sons; Stephen (Rosemary) and Alan Zimmer, grandchildren; Jodi Zimmer, Melissa (Loren) Brooks, Kate Zimmer and Peter Zimmer, and great-grandchildren; Hunter and Tanner Brooks, and by former daughter-in-law, Nancy Zimmer, who she always held as a member of the family.
She was preceded in death by her husband George Zimmer in 1970.
Services will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Friday, October 12 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, St. Clair. The family will receive visitors from 10:30 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at church prior to mass. Interment will be at St. Mary's Cemetery. Memorials may be made to St. Mary's Organ Fund.
