Michael David Whitmer's Obituary
Michael David Whitmer (Mr. Mike), age 71, of Yale, passed away peacefully on August 17, 2025, surrounded by his family. He was born on February 19, 1954, to the late David and Marilyn Whitmer. Mike was a graduate of Warren Cousino High School, class of 1973. He married Janet Gustin in 2004.
Mike worked as a custodian for the Algonac School District for over 30 years, spending most of those years at Fair Haven Elementary. He loved his job and took great pride in his work, and was affectionately known as “Mr. Mike” by the students. He also coached for the Hoops for Hearts program that Algonac offered for several years.
Mike was an avid card player, especially Euchre, Bingo, and Poker, and he enjoyed trips to the casino. He especially cherished the time spent at the family cottage with his wife, children, grandchildren, and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Janet; children, Jennie Whitmer, David Whitmer, Luke Whitmer, Connie (David) Keller, T.J. (Colette) Wilson, Cheryl Jagodzinski, Joshua Wilson, Ricky Whitmer, Isiah Whitmer, Karia Whitmer, Raymond Arneil, Jesse (Teresa) DuCharme, Rachel (Stephen) Uhlich, and Jacob DuCharme; grandchildren, Austin, Destiny, David II, Delanie, Faith, Taylor, Ella; great-grandchildren, Devin, Azzlynn, Paisley, Josie, Rowan, Autumn; brothers, William (Beverly) Whitmer Sr., and James (Salvador) Whitmer; and many nieces and nephews.
Cremation arrangements are with Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A celebration of life will take place Saturday, September 20th from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. at Richmond Community Center, 36164 Festival Drive, Richmond, MI, 48062.
