Michael Francis Hopper's Obituary
It is with great sorrow that we announce that Michael Francis Hopper of St. Clair Michigan, formerly of Grosse Pointe Woods at the age of 84, passed away peacefully on Sunday, October 24th in Naples Florida.
Michael was born on January 18th, 1937 to Mildred and Frank Hopper in Detroit. He attended University of Detroit Jesuit High school where he was active in basketball and was an all-city tennis player and graduated from University of Detroit.
After graduating from college, Michael worked with several publications in sales until finding his calling as a Publisher for Technical Publications which later became Open Systems Media. He was an innovator in the publishing world, started several new editions and also sold a publication as well.
Michael married Janet Porter in June of 1966 and eventually settled in Grosse Pointe Woods where they raised their two children Elizabeth and Patrick. Michael was an avid boater (owning more than 15 boats in his lifetime) and belonged to the Grosse Pointe Yacht Club. He also captained his beloved trawler from Florida to Michigan. Michael also enjoyed tennis and platform tennis and golf. He later joined the St Clair Golf Club.
More than his career success and outdoor activities, Michael was best known for his love of God and dedicated husband, father, grandfather and friend. “You are my favorite” was a phrase that brings a smile to our family’s faces each time my dad expressed it to someone. Michael had a way of making everyone feel loved. His countenance was marked with a warm smile, a welcoming hello and lots of laughter.
He will continue to be cherished by his wife of 55 years and his children Elizabeth (married to Todd Bowman and their 5 children: Abigail, Andrew, Anna, Ainsley and Amelia) and Patrick (married to Kate and their children Caroline and Patrick).
Our hearts are full as we remember his life. A Catholic Mass will be held in his honor on Saturday, November 13, 2021 at 12:00 pm at Holy Cross Catholic Church, with a visitation at the church from 11:00 am until time of Mass.
