Michael E. "Mike" Czenkus' Obituary
Michael E. "Mike" Czenkus, age 74, of Casco Twp. passed away on June 24, 2014, surrounded by his family after an eight year battle with cancer. He was born to the late Ed and Lorraine Czenkus on March 9, 1940 in Detroit. He married Stella Hedderson on May 19, 1972 in Goose Bay, Labrador, Canada. He served his country with the United States Air Force from 1958 to 1981. He then worked for 23 years as a civilian at Selfridge Air Force Base retiring in 2004. Upon his retirement from the Air Force he served the Casco Township government in many capacities. He was also very involved with his church, St. James U.C.C. in Casco Twp. He enjoyed the outdoors and helping friends and neighbors however he could.
He is survived by his wife; Stella Czenkus, children; Edward (Dawn) Czenkus, Gary (Terri) Czenkus, Chad Czenkus, Bill (Andrea) Czenkus, Peggy (Jon) VanWilgen, Tammatha (Vickie) Czenkus, Cindy (John) McDonald, 14 grandchildren, and 13 great-grandchildren.
He is also survived by brothers; Richard (Laurie) Czenkus, Stephen (Sherrie) Czenkus, sisters; Gail (Bill) Kloeffler, Barb (Mike) Lump and many nieces, nephews, and friends.
He is preceded in death by his sister; Kay Rivard and animal companions; Mossy and Cozmo.
Services will be at 11:00 a.m. on Monday , June 30 at St. James U.C.C. in Casco Twp. Visiting hours will be Saturday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Monday from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at church prior to the service. Interment will be at St. James Cemetery. Memorials may be given to wishes of the family.
