Merle J. "Barney" Westrick's Obituary
Merle J. “Barney” Westrick, age 89, quietly passed away Jan. 9, 2016 with family at his side.
Merle was born in St. Clair, MI on Nov. 1, 1926 to Julius and Agnes Westrick and was a lifelong resident.
He married Donna M. Siefert on Oct. 11, 1947 in St. Clair, she preceded him in death on May 6, 1989.
Merle served in the United State Marine Corps during WWII and was honorably discharged. Merle worked at Diamond Crystal Salt Company as an Electrical Supervisor for over 45 years until his retirement in 1989.
Merle loved the outdoors, hunting, golfing, camping and for many years was involved in St. Clair Little League. He especially enjoyed gatherings with family and friends.
He is survived by three children, Merle J. “Joe” Westrick, Jim (Sue) Westrick and John Westrick. Six grandchildren, Amy Westrick, Chris (Val) Westrick, Jason Westrick, Sarah (Brian) Clement, Dan Westrick and Melissa Westrick. Four great grandchildren. One brother Harold (Clara) Westrick and sister-in-law Elizabeth Westrick and several nieces and nephews.
He was also preceded in death by his parents, Julius and Agnes Westrick and brothers Russell and Robert Westrick.
Cremation has taken place and a memorial service will be held Saturday January 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Hillside Cemetery Chapel. Memorials may be made to St. Clair Little League.
