Matthew Steven Lemon's Obituary
Matthew Steven Lemon, age 70, of East China Twp, formerly Peru, IN, passed away August 5,
2023 after a lifelong battle with Cystic Fibrosis and a more recent diagnosis of esophageal
cancer. He was born in Peru Indiana on September 24, 1952 to the late Elmer and Barbara
Lemon. Matt was raised in Peru Indiana and moved to Michigan in 1979, where he raised his
family. Matt married Anita Stevens, October 27, 1979 in Peru and they enjoyed 43 years of
marriage together.
After graduating from Peru High School Matt traveled around on his motorcycle and worked in
Texas and Florida as an electrician. Upon returning to Michigan, Matt started working in the
automotive manufacturing industry, as a programmer. His last years of employment were at
Grupo Antolin of St. Clair.
Matt grew up summering at his family cabin in St. Ignace Michigan, which started his love for
fishing and boating. During his retirement, Matt and Anita started camping and traveling around
the US.
Matt was survived by his wife Anita, daughters Monique (Allan) Cunningham and Arianne
(Larry) Lee; grandchildren, Cole, Kylie and Gage Cunningham, Penelope and Christian Lee,
and Michaela Wilkins; sister Sara (Richard) Sharp, and brother-in-law Paul (Ann) Florence.
In addition to his parents, Matt was preceded in death by his sister Victoria Florence and
nephew Mitchel Sharp.
The family wishes to thank the wonderful staff of Ascension St. John Moross for their
compassionate care of Matt while in hospice there and for their support of the family. Cremation
arrangements by Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. A memorial service will be held at
Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Clair on Saturday September 16 at 11:00 am with visiting from
10:00 am until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers memorials may be made to the Cystic
Fibrosis Foundation or the American Cancer Society.
