Mary Jo Malcolm (Burns)'s Obituary
Mary Jo Malcolm (Burns), age 80, of Marine City, passed away unexpectedly surrounded by her family on September 1, 2024. She was born in Detroit on February 14, 1944, to the late Stewart and Catherine Burns. Mary Jo was a graduate of Holy Cross High School. She married Roger Malcolm on November 30, 1963. Mary Jo was a longtime, active parishioner of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City, contributing as a member of the Daughters of Isabella as well as the choir. She was an avid animal lover. She cared for numerous animals, all shapes and sizes throughout her life. She enjoyed her shopping trips with her daughters, as well as her lunch dates with her good friend, Dotty Scharnweber. Above all, Mary Jo cherished the time she spent with family. She was the glue that held everything together. She was a tremendous mother and grandmother, who always put the family’s needs before her own. Mary Jo would attend all of her grandchildren’s sporting events when they grew up. Her selfless nature and compassion will be deeply missed.
She is survived by her husband of 61 years, Roger Malcolm; children, Cheryl (Dana) O’Rourke, Roger (Dawn) Malcolm II, Charmain Malcolm; grandchildren, Malcolm (Holly) O’Rourke, Dana O’Rourke, Mariah (Jared) Headlee, Roger Malcolm III, Kristin Malcolm, Sumner Malcolm; brother, Joe (Gwen) Burns; niece, Jenee Frantz.
A memorial mass will take place on Monday, September 9th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Visitation will be on Sunday, September 8th from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. As well as from 10:00 a.m. to 11:00 a.m. at church.
