Mary "Peggy" Blake's Obituary
Mary “Peggy” Blake, age 87, of Saint Clair Township, went home to her Lord on Friday, January 24th, 2025. She was born December 2nd, 1937, in her parent’s home in Saint Clair to the late Mildred Christy and Henry Stockwell LaCroix.
On September 3rd, 1954, Mary married William “Bill” Blake. He preceded her in death on December 27th, 1984.
Mary had a tremendous love for her family and took great pride in her children, grandchildren, and great grandchildren. Family was always first in her life. She enjoyed traveling to all her children’s homes, spending time with her grandchildren and then with her great grandchildren. She also enjoyed riding her motorcycle and flying for many years. It brought her greater joy when she could share those hobbies with her sons. She also enjoyed visiting Harsen’s Island with her sisters and learning more about their family. She had a love of reading and bird watching and hoped to have passed those on to her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
Mary attended St. Mary’s School in St. Clair. She eventually earned her GED in 1985. Mary was known to enjoy working and did so for most of her adult life. She was a secretary at Butler Plastics as well as a clerk at the Saint Clair IGA and Speedy Q. She was also a long-time custodian at Immanuel Lutheran Church in St. Clair.
Mary is survived by three of her children, Ed (Jill) Blake, Terry (Tracee) Blake, Renee’ (James) Jones and daughter-in-law Pam Blake. She was preceded in death by her son, Mark Blake on October 27, 2022. She is also survived by her grandchildren, Jamie (Dustin) Oakley, Brandon (Angie) Blake, Brooke (Jimmy) Ahles, Malissa Wagner, Monica Blake, Lewis (Colleen) Blake, Stephanie Blake, James (Melissa) Jones, Jonathan (Jessica) Jones, Lindsey Jackson, and Christian (Krysti) Jones. Through her grandchildren, Mary was also a loving great-grandmother to 21 great-grandchildren. Mary is also survived by her brother, Harold “Jim” LaCroix and sister-in-law Kay Blake. She was preceded in death by her sisters Ann Westrick, Margaret Naeyaert, and Carol Vogler. Mary is also survived by many nieces and nephews. On behalf of Mary, her family would like to also express a lovingly thanks to her niece, Janice (Ed) Henry, and the staff at Marwood Manor in Port Huron for their care of her during her final years.
A memorial service will take place at Faith Lutheran Church in Port Huron at 11:00am on Tuesday, January 28th, 2025. It will be officiated by Reverend Mark Huff, as well as Mary’s grandson, Reverend Christian Michael Jones. There will be a preservice gathering at 10:00am, prior to the service, and a luncheon at the church following the service, put on by the Fidelis Guild of Faith Lutheran Church.
Mary’s legacy is one of love and inspiration. She was a great mother, grandmother, aunt and sister. Her honesty was respected, her stubbornness admitted, and her sense of humor was enjoyed. Most of all, she will be remembered for the compassion she had for her family, a compassion we all hope she received in kind.
