Mary F. Achatz's Obituary
Mary F. Achatz, age 96, of East China Twp., passed away October 27, 2021. She was born on October 5, 1925 to the late Bernard and Ruth Kliemann. She married Anthony Achatz on February 2, 1946 in Marine City. He preceded her in death on October 13, 2000.
Mary graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1943. She was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. She was also a long time active member of the D of I.
She and Tony owned several restaurants together. Mary was well known for baking her famous pies. She was also the head baker at the Olde Club on Harsens Island for several years.
Mary enjoyed casino trips, playing bingo and playing the organ. Most of all she loved family gatherings and spending time with them. After Tony's passing she took companionship with Robert Rutt and enjoyed time with his family as well.
She is survived by her children; Anthony (Cathy) Achatz, Linda (Herman) Koelbel, and Gregory (Vickie) Achatz. She is also survived by 11 grandchildren and 24 great-grandchildren and her sister; Patricia (Joseph) Kreusel and several nieces, nephews, and friends.
She was preceded in death by her brothers; Bernard, Earl, Robert and Richard Kliemann and sisters; Grace Robbel and Theresa Kreusel along with her companion; Robert Rutt.
Funeral mass will be at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, November 6 at Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Interment will be at Rosehill Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Friday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and one hour at church prior to mass. A rosary will said at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
