Mark Alexander DeLaHarpe's Obituary
Mark Alexander DeLaHarpe, age 63, passed away in the comfort of his own home on February 25, 2024. He was born May 28, 1960, to the late Norman and Elinor DeLaHarpe.
Mark was a talented musician, playing bass guitar in various bands; Foreign Xchange/Clear Cut in the 80s, and most recently, MoonShaker in the 2010s. Clear Cut, originally based in Hamilton, Ontario, traveled to California to pursue a record deal in 1988. There he wrote music and helped to operate Planet Gemini, a nightclub and recording studio on historic Cannery Row in Monterey, California.
Mark married Mary Polio on August 18, 1990. He and Mary lived in Salinas Valley, California, before returning to Michigan, following the birth of his daughters.
In 2007, he became the owner of Picture This Art Shop, a business which he owned and operated until 2023. Mark was a member of the Knights of Columbus Marine City, and BMI, where he met a lot of good friends, sharing various business ideas. Mark was a proud musician, art gallery owner, husband, and father.
He is survived by his daughters, Julia and Veronica; Brother, David DeLaHarpe; mother-in-law, Ruth Polio; in-laws, Jean Polio, Sam Polio, Mike (Sarah) Polio, Elizabeth (Bill) Welser, Steve (Jenny) Polio, and Mark Niemic.
He is preceded in death by his wife, Mary DeLaHarpe, on July 8, 2012; father-in-law, Sam Polio, and sisters-in-law, Teresa Niemic and Susan Polio.
A funeral mass will be held on Thursday, March 7th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Visiting hours will be on Wednesday, March 6th, from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Memorials are suggested to the wishes of the family.
