Marie Buhler Fisher's Obituary
Marie (Widen) Buhler Fisher, 93, of Saint Clair, Michigan, passed away at home on Monday, May 7. She was born April 3, 1919, near Weldon, Saskatchewan, Canada, to Adolph and Esther Widen. Her mother died when she was only three years old, and she grew up in the home of her aunt,Josie Folland.
She attended high school in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan and felt privileged to attend Canadian Junior College in College Heights, Alberta, where she obtained her degree in secretarial science in 1941. After working as the secretary to the college president and registrar until 1944, she married Reuben Samuel Buhler on June 3, 1945 and they moved to Winnipeg, Manitoba. Their first child, Lester Adolph, was born there on August 30, 1948. In 1951 they moved back to College Heights, where they lived for the next 50 years.
Three additional children were born in Lacombe, Alberta. Ronald Samuel on February 26, 1953, Patricia Marie on May 1, 1955 and James Reuben on March 9, 1957.
Marie was the quintessential homemaker and took on additional responsibilities as the postmaster for the college post office once the children were all attending school. She also bought an insurance agency that she operated for 25 years.
She was a master gardener of both flowers and vegetables and enjoyed walking, knitting, reading and spending time with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Marie was a devoted Christian who loved the Lord with all her heart.
Reuben died May 16, 2000, at the age of 86 and on February 18, 2001, Marie married a long-time family friend, Malcolm Fisher, in Creston, British Columbia. They were together for seven years until his death in January of 2008. She was blessed to live with her son Lester and his wife Joni until she passed away at home in their loving care.
Marie’s legacy of selfless love and service left an indelible mark on all those who knew her. She is survived by her four children: Lester (Joni), Ron (Doris), Patricia and James (Heather), ten grandchildren, 18 great-grandchildren, and a host of extended family and friends.
