Margaret Mary Garvale's Obituary
GARVALE, MARGARET “MARGE,” April 25, 2014. Age 91. Born Sept. 18, 1922, Margaret resided in Highland Park, Mich., and was the beloved wife of John A. Garvale, whom she married Oct. 30, 1943, in Detroit, Mich. They met at a church dance, and their married life found them raising three children throughout Michigan, with summers at the family cottage in Lexington, Mich.
Marge and “Jack” enjoyed their retirement in Bradenton, Fla. After Jack’s passing in 1993, Margaret called Marine City home until 2010. She cherished color rummy and coffee with her numerous friends, and she was an active member of Holy Cross Catholic Church. Her apple pies, “hermit” cookies, and mac ’n’ cheese were beyond compare, as was her love for the Detroit Red Wings. Her loud voice and easy laugh carried across many a garage sale, bingo hall, bowling alley, and family meal.
She was preceded in death by her brother, Robert Logan; her parents, Charles and Matilda Logan; her husband, Jack; her dear daughter, Margaret (James) Stechschulte; and her sisters Eilene Taylor and Marian Plagany. She is survived by son James A. Garvale of Jenison, son Thomas A. (Irene) Garvale of Okemos, sister Patricia L. Reynolds of Grayling, and sister Julianne Scherer of Harbor Beach, as well as eight adoring grandchildren and eight treasured great-grandchildren.
The family wishes to thank the staff of the Ingham County Medical Care Facility in Okemos, Mich., for their aid in caring for Margaret in her final years.
In state from 11 a.m. to noon Wednesday, April 30, at Holy Cross Catholic Church in Marine City, followed by a noon Mass. A private interment will be at a later date. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation in Margaret’s name to a charity of your choice.
