Lourene Mary Bacon's Obituary
Lourene Mary Bacon quietly passed away on June 27, 2023 at the age of 102. “Mary” was born on January 21, 1921 to John and Ona Tucker in Grandview, WA. Mary lived in Washington until 1937 when the family moved back to the Port Huron area. She graduated from Port Huron High School in 1939. The Campfire Girls of Puyallup, WA have gotten together again.
Mary married Donald Bacon on February 11, 1941. They were married for 52 years when she lost Don in 1993. After Don came home from the war, they took up residency in Port Huron as well as Marysville and St. Clair areas. Later years they built a home in Belleview, FL, where they spent the winter months. They also had a cabin on Loon Lake in Rose City, MI where they thoroughly enjoyed having family and friends come to stay. Over the years Mary enjoyed the many canoe trips down the AuSable River in the “dry” boat, which made her very popular because it contained the food. She also enjoyed playing her favorite card game, progressive rummy, with all her grandchildren and the many friends who came to stay with them. Mary was still playing progressive rummy at her 102nd birthday party. She was avid walker and a “sometimes” hiker all her life walking at least 10,000 steps a day, right up until she passed. She was loved by all who knew her and will be greatly missed.
She is survived by her sons, Don Jr. (Kathy) Bacon, Mike Bacon and Richard Bacon; grandchildren, Don Bacon III, Thomas (Gwen) Bacon, Bruce (Kathy) Bacon, Dawn (Joel) Endelman, John (Sue) Bacon, Christopher (Dusty) Johnson, Amy (Kevin) Roehl, Heather (Robert) Klein, Laurie Nestle, Barb (Clayton) Campbell; 22 great grandchildren, six great-great grandchildren and many nieces and nephews.
She is also survived by her extended family of siblings, John (Wanda) Tucker, Dale (Holly) Tucker, Linda (Ken) Harris, Maurice Tucker, Karen Washburn and Mike Tucker.
Mary was predeceased by her husband, Don; daughter, Karen and sons, Patrick and Steve; great granddaughter, Melissa, as well as her brothers, Leo, Bob, Bill and sisters, Mayme and Dorothy.
