Lorraine Sass Thomas' Obituary
Lorraine Sass Thomas, age 96, of East China, MI, died May 24, 2016 in Welcome Home AFC, St. Clair. She was born in Casco Twp. to Edward and Elsie Maedel Sass on June 24, 1919. She graduated from Richmond High School in 1936 as Salutatorian of her class. After graduation she worked in several Doctor’s offices in Richmond. She married Frederick Thomas of Marine City in 1948 at St. Matthew’s United Church of Christ, Adair.
She was a lifelong member of St. Matthew’s UCC, Adair, and was recognized as the longest living member of over 80 years. She served on the Church Council and also served as an officer in the Eastern Association Women’s Fellowship. Mrs. Thomas also had memberships in: River District Hospital Auxiliary, Port Huron Museum, Marine City Museum, Blue Water Lapidary Club, Lake Huron Lore Marine Society and FCE of Michigan.
She loved to travel and had visited 49 of the 50 states and has also been to Europe and Russia. She and Fred were rock-hounds and had many great trips focused on collecting rocks. They also loved to go up North to their cottage.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Frederick Thomas, who passed in January 2001. She is survived by nephews; Ed (Gerry) Sass, Bob (Debbie) Sass, Bill (Jane) Sass and a niece, Miriam (Fred) Zuidveld and great nephews, nieces and cousins.
Funeral service will be Saturday May 28th at 11 a.m. at St. Matthews UCC, Adair. Interment will be in Rosehill Cemetery. Visiting hours are Friday 2 to 5 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Saturday 10 to 11 a.m. at church prior to service.
