Lois J. Moldenhauer's Obituary
Lois J. Moldenhauer, beloved mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, aunt, and friend died peacefully in her home on April 28, 2016 surrounded by the love and care of her family.
Lois was born on June 1, 1930 in Detroit, MI to George and Cora Denstaedt, the youngest of 10 children. She grew up in Fair Haven, MI when her family moved there after her father’s retirement from the Detroit Police Department. She graduated from St. Mary’s High School in New Baltimore. On May 20, 1950, she married Ralph F. Moldenhauer and they made their home in Marine City, MI until his death on February 24, 2011.
Lois was a homemaker until 1964 when she went to work as a cashier at Beattie’s IGA in Marine City. She was employed there for 26 years. She was a devoted member of Holy Cross Catholic Church for over 60 years, and served her church as a cantor, member of the choir, through the Altar Society, and as the coordinator of funeral luncheons for more than 20 years. She was a member of the St. Agatha Circle #419 of the Daughters of Isabella for over 50 years and served as Regent multiple times.
Lois loved the water and enjoyed many years of swimming in the St. Clair River. An avid walker, she was well known around Marine City for her early morning brisk-paced walks that people could set their clocks by, and also for her leisurely evening strolls around the neighborhood in better weather visiting with neighbors along the way. She also enjoyed watching the Detroit Tigers.
We knew her as Mom, Grandma, Great-Grandma, and Aunt Lois. She was happiest in the company of her grandchildren and the kids adored her. The endless baking sessions, trips to the playground or the beach, games played, excursions to the Dairy Queen etc. were hallmarks of the role she loved deeply - being a Grandma.
She is survived by her children: Connie (Steve) McCartney, Lynne Moldenhauer, Terry (Dan) Lozon, Bob (Fran) Moldenhauer, 14 grandchildren, and 24 great-grandchildren. She was sadly preceded in death by her youngest son Ralph (Shari) Moldenhauer Jr, and her beloved granddaughter Andrea.
We will be forever grateful for the blessing of this past Easter when Mom was able to enjoy a beautiful day with family gathered in the driveway at her home enjoying the sun like so many times before. It was her last good day and a memory we will cherish always.
Our thanks to Great Lakes Caring Hospice Dawn,RN, and Candice, Nursing Assistant, for their beautiful and compassionate guidance and caring for Mom. To our cousin Robin Fritz, retired Hospice Nurse, for her incredible love, support, and guidance.
