Mrs. Lilyan Janis' Obituary
Lilyan Janis, age 96, of St. Clair, went home with our Lord Saturday, December 21st. She passed in the loving and caring hands of the doctors and nurses at Port Huron Hospital. Thank you to Jill, Rebecca, Justine, Ross and all the others...
She was born in Toledo, Ohio to Stephan and Michalina Piekutowski. Lilyan was the oldest of four children, Walter and Joseph, who predeceased her and a surviving sister, Helen Swirski.
Lilyan married twice. Her first husband predeceased her, John Banas. Lilyan and John had four children, twins that died shortly after birth and two daughters who survive her, Loraine (Robert) Berry of Ross, California and Virginia (Charles) Eeckhout of Gulliver, Michigan. Lilyan's second husband Norbert Janis also preceded her in death. Lilyan and Norbert had one son Donald (Patti) Janis of St. Clair. All of her children grew up in the Detroit East Side and Nortown area.
Lilyan and her two husbands owned J.L. Bar on Harper in Detroit. After losing her husbands she continued to operate the bar by herself for almost 40 years. She always cherished those memories. She later worked and retired from Chatham Foods. She also did numerous food demos and coupon give aways for many companies. Lilyan lived a truly long and healthy happy life to her end.
She is also blessed with 6 granchildren, 7 great grandchildren and one great great grandchild, and a pawfect friend Sassy. God Bless all who knew her and loved and cared for her.
