Lawrence Joseph Pung's Obituary
Lawrence (Larry) Pung, 75, of St. Clair, went home to be with the Lord on July 18, 2026. Larry was born to the late Gordon and Berniece Pung on February 26, 1951 in St. Clair, MI. He married Lillian Schott on January 14, 1978.
Larry was a life-long resident of St. Clair. He graduated from St. Clair High school, class of 1969. Larry attended St. Clair County Community College and was a graduate of Michigan State University in 1973. Larry retired from Cargill Salt after 40 years. He was a union representative that truly stood behind the workers. He was also very involved in church life. He taught Sunday school and Royal Rangers through the Assemblies of God. Larry also taught catechism at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clair for 7 years.
Larry worked hard his entire life. His upbringing on the family farm instilled in him the importance of discipline. He enjoyed helping family and friends with a generous heart and had a strong sense of duty looking after his mother and sister, Rita. He kept busy maintaining the lawn and vegetable gardens. He loved a good game of Dirty Bird. Larry will be greatly missed by many.
Larry is survived by his wife of 48 years, Lillian; daughters Bonnie (Nick) Suriano, Rhonda (Gary) Path and 4 grandchildren. He is also survived by siblings Mary Gibbons, Susan Pung, Barbara Huss, Theresa (Gary) Clor and John (Daranee) Pung, sisters in-law Sue Blackmer and Glenda (Willie) Brown, brothers-in-law Frank (Denise) Schott, Richard Schott, and Christopher (Barb) Schott and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his sister, Rita Pung.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, Inc., St. Clair. A private memorial gathering will be held at a later date.
Interment will be at St. Mary’s Cemetery, St. Clair.
