L. David Rancilio's Obituary
Louis “David” Rancilio, 80, of St. Clair passed away on Sunday, November 6, 2022 surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Detroit, Michigan on July 18, 1942, son of the late Louis Paul and Mabel Grace (Jacobs) Rancilio and nephew of the late John and Hazel (Jacobs) Baker, who both helped him when his mother passed away when he was 4.
Dave has been married 57 years to the love of his life, Judy (Shiverski), whom he met in college. He is also survived by his 3 sons, Jeff (Anne), Greg (Melinda), and Marty (Anne) along with six grandchildren Zachary, Michael, Lindsey, Kylie, Grace and Julia, brother in law Fr. John Shiverski, brother in law and sister in law Mike and Sandy “Pinky” Demery, niece Sarah Demery, cousin Mary Ann Gelso and his special four paws pal Hope. Dave was preceded in death by his parents, in laws John and Sophie Shiverski, sister Judith Lynn and nephew Patrick Demery.
Dave is a US Army National Guard Veteran who had successful careers in the automotive and pizza industries. Dave attended The Hall of the Divine Child in Monroe and was a graduate of Austin Catholic Prep School in Detroit where he played baseball with Dave DeBusschere; Dave also attended Macomb College. Dave was General Manager at the Rinke car dealerships in Warren and St. Clair from the 1960’s through the 1980’s. In 1990, Dave switched industries and became a franchisee of Hungry Howie’s Pizza and Subs, opening and operating stores in St. Clair, Marysville, Kimball and Port Huron for over 20 years. Dave was also very involved in youth sports in the Blue Water community. His involvement spanned coaching hockey for the Warren Firebirds, many teams in the Port Huron Minor Hockey Association and being a coach of St. Clair High Varsity Hockey for several years. Dave also coached baseball teams in St. Clair Little League (Browns) and St. Clair Babe Ruth (Cardinals) along with numerous all star teams, as well as being a founding member of the St. Clair Football Club.
Dave’s hobbies and passions centered around traveling to the U.P. to see family, his dogs, watching all the Detroit and Michigan sports teams, his 1965 Chevy Corvette, playing cards and dominoes, traveling in the winter to Florida and Arizona to see friends, and most of all being a great dad to his sons and watching his six grandchildren grow up and follow their dreams. Dave did not have a lot of family growing up and his wife, sons and grandchildren were his world. He will be missed greatly.
Funeral mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Monday, November 14 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair. Visiting hours will be Sunday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Rosary will be at 7:00 p.m. Sunday evening. Memorials are suggested to Blue Water Humane Society.
