Kurt Griffin's Obituary
Kurt Wesley Griffin, age 48, of Port Huron, formerly of Marine City, went home to be with the Lord on September 19, 2011, at home after a courageous battle with cancer. Kurt was born January 21, 1963 in St. Clair to Charles Griffin and Bonnie Chartier. In his youth Kurt loved to hunt and fish, "go frogging" play baseball and swim in the "Big River" and Belle River where he was referred to as one of the "River Rats". In his adult life, he loved to go to the Blue Water Clubhouse in Port Huron, where he made many cherished friends and was able to be the special person he was. He had a great sense of humor and quick wit. He enjoyed having the newspaper read to him and loved his music. He enjoyed trips north to Hawks, MI on Lake Nettie with his caregiver, Karen, where he liked to be by the lake, go on the pontoon and for walks and play yahtzee and hitting the yard sales on the way up north. Kurt has overcome many obstacles in the past 20 years and has been a real inspiration to many. Kurt is survived by his parents, his daughter; Heather Seczawa, grand-daughter; Autumn Seczawa, siblings; Cindy (Bob) McCollister,Kevin (Mary) Griffin, Kelly Griffin, Charles (MaryLynn) Griffin, Kim Holland, Daniel (Michelle) Griffin and Timothy (Sherry) Griffin. His special nephew; Rob McCollister (fiance Jade Roberts), aunts; Carol Pogue, Dolly Simon and Charleen "Shush" Kenny, uncle; Harold "Benny" Chartier several nieces, nephews, cousins, his exceptional caregiver and friend, Karen Schieman and her family, his many friends, especialy those he met at The Blue Water Clubhouse.
Kurt is preceded in death by his grandparents; Harold "Ben" and Evelyn Chartier and Clifton and Delia Griffin.
Crematon has taken place and Kurt will be buried in Woodlawn Cemetery, Marine City, alongside his grandfather Harold "Ben" Chartier at a private burial service. A memorial service will be held Saturday October 1, 2011 at 3:00 p.m. at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. Visiting hours are 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. prior to the service.
