Kenneth John Stockwell's Obituary
Kenneth J. Stockwell, age 91, quietly passed away on Saturday June 4, 2011. "Kenny" was a life-long resident of Marine City. He was born April 14, 1920 to John and Isla Stockwell both of Marine City.
He sailed on the Great Lakes with The Pittsburgh Steamship Co. from 1937 to 1941. After which he joined the Navy and served in the Pacific during WWII and was Honorably Discharged in Feb. of 1946. He eventually retired from the Prudential Insurance Co. in 1983 after selling insurance in the St. Clair area for over 20 years.
Kenny married Rosemary Britz on January 27, 1945. They were married 47 years when he lost Rosemary in May of 1992. Kenny and Rosie had two children, Larry in 1946 and Kathy in 1950.
He enjoyed a long and happy life in his beloved hometown of Marine City. He had many friends that will miss his company at their Friday morning "coffee and doughnut" sessions, his weekly trip to the "Raft" and his neighbors who experienced his generosity and humor.
He is survived by his son Larry (Karen) Stockwell and his daughter Kathy (Don) Bacon. Grandchildren; Christopher (Dusty) Johnson, Amy (Kevin) Roehl, Carrie Stockwell, Larry Jr. (Kathy) Stockwell, Kenny (Stephanie) Stockwell, Don (Alice) Bacon, Tom (Gwen) Bacon, Bruce (Kathy) Bacon, Dawn (Joel) Endelman and John (Sue) Bacon. Along with many great grandchildren, nephews and nieces.
Kenny is also survived by a very dear friend, Lucy Schreiner with whom he enjoyed a very close companionship for the last 17 years. Lucy's children also grew very close and will miss him dearly.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary and brothers, George, Frank, and Pat Stockwell as well as his sister Marie "Peekie" Duchene.
Funeral services will begin Thursday June 9th at 10:15 at Young Funeral Home and 11:00 at Our Lady on the River Parish Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery. Grandsons will serve as pallbearers.
Visiting hours are Tuesday 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. and Wednesday 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 9:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A rosary will be said Wednesday evening at 6 pm.
