Julian B. Sullivan's Obituary
Julian B. Sullivan of St. Clair passed away peacefully after a short illness on January 23, 2024. Born April 3, 1935 in Lexington, Kentucky, to the late Gladys and Charles Sullivan, he was a graduate of Bald Knob High School in Franklin County Kentucky. Upon graduation he joined the Army National Guard until his honorable discharge in 1963. While serving in the National Guard Julian also worked full-time for the Jefferson Island Salt Company in Kentucky until being transferred to the Diamond Crystal Salt Company in St. Clair, Michigan. It was in St. Clair that he met his future bride Jeanne Davidson. They were united in marriage on April 11, 1959 until her passing on February 4, 2023. Julian continued to work at Diamond Crystal Salt until the company was sold in 1988. After the sale, during a period of downsizing, rather than accept a transfer out of state, Julian began a new career with Vogel Industries where he worked until his retirement in 1999. Julian was an active member of the community. He was a member of St. Peter’s Lutheran Church since 1959 where he served in many different roles. He coached Little League and served on the board of the Riverview Community Federal Credit Union for many years. He was an avid golfer; sports fan in general, and known to have a wee bit of a green thumb. He loved to travel, which he and Jeanne did extensively, both in the U.S. and abroad. Julian was very proud of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, never missing an opportunity to acknowledge and share their accomplishments with others.
Julian is survived by his children Mark Sullivan, Julie (Bill) Veal, Amy Sullivan Powell; daughter-in-law, Joanne Sullivan; grandchildren, Jarred (Dee), Garrett Veal, Rachel, Zachary, Daniel (Emma), Rebecca Sullivan; great grandchildren, Liam and Eli Veal as well as many nieces and nephews. He was preceded in death by his six siblings.
A funeral service will be held on Wednesday, January 31 at 11:00 a.m. at St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, St. Clair. Visiting hours will be on Tuesday, January 30 from 3:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. at the Young Colonial Chapel. Interment will be at Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair.
In lieu of flowers memorials are suggested to St. Peter’s Lutheran Church, St. Clair or the Blue Water Hospice Home, Marysville.
