Joyce M. Cooley's Obituary
Joyce M. (Westrick) Cooley passed away on July 25, 2024 at the Blue Water Hospice Home in Marysville. She was surrounded by family as she quietly departed.
She was born April 3, 1927 in St. Clair to Raymond F. and Mary T. (Snider) Westrick and was very proud to be one of 13 children.
She married Jerold Z. Cooley on July 24, 1948 and they celebrated their 75th wedding anniversary on July 24, 2023. Joyce worked for many years at Michigan Bell Telephone Company in Port Huron.
She was preceded in death by her husband on December 2, 2023, her parents, and her brothers; Raymond, Leo, Edward, Lloyd, Ervin, Alvoy and Marvin Westrick, and her son in-law; James Liebetreu.
She is survived by her daughter; Diane Liebetreu of Marysville and son; Richard (Wanda) Cooley of Versailles, Missouri.
She is also survived by her grandchildren; Mike (Sue) Liebetreu, Jamie (Matt) Mackley, John (Meagan) Liebetreu, Angela Cooley-Hill and Robert (Trina) Cooley, her great-grandchildren; Katelyn (Andrew), Mitchell, Emily, Joshua, Wyatt, Andrew, Maxwell, and Scarlett, and great-great granddaughter; Layla.
Joyce is also survived by her sister; Kathleen Distelrath, her brothers; Kenneth, Vern (Margie), Alfred and John “Jack” (Alyce) Westrick, along with her sister in-laws; Gail and Mary Louise Westrick, along with many nieces and nephews, relatives and friends.
In her last years she and Jerold lived with their grandson Mike (Sue) Liebetreu and their three children who went to great lengths to provide care for them. Mike’s sister Jamie Mackley and brother John also provided care. The family also extends a special thank you to Becca Wilkins for her special care.
Funeral Mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Tuesday, July 30 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, St. Clair. Visiting hours will be Monday from 1:00 to 7:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Rosary will be at 6:00 p.m. Monday evening.
Memorials are suggested to St. Mary’s Cemetery Fund or Blue Water Hospice Home.
