Joseph Anthony Rinke's Obituary
Joseph Anthony Rinke, age 89, of St. Clair, died peacefully, March 18, 2023 with his family by his side. He was born October 20, 1933 in Center Line, Michigan to the late Norbert and Cecilia Rinke.
He graduated from De La Salle High School and earned his college degree from University of Detroit. Joseph grew up as part of the Rinke family of dealerships that began their relationship with General Motors back in 1917 in Center Line. During the 50’s, 60’s and 70’s Joseph helped manage, alongside his older brother, Roland, the Pontiac GMC dealership in Warren, Michigan. In 1976 he moved his family to St. Clair, where he purchased the local GM dealership and eventually sold. He finished out his lengthy and successful automotive career working at Rinke Cadillac.
While living in St. Clair, Joseph was a founding member of the St. Clair Business Association and was a member of the St. Clair Country Club. He was also a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clair.
Everyone who was lucky enough to have known him or have met him immediately sensed his kindness, humor and infectious smile… a true gentlemen.
He is survived by his children, Mark (Judy) Rinke, Mary Jo (Brent) Bock, Tim (Nanette) Rinke and Jill (Keith) Joachim; grandchildren, Keith Rinke, Sean (Betsy) Rinke, Aaron Bock, Kris Bock and Kaylee Joachim. Joseph was predeceased by his wife, Mary Lou, in 2003.
Joseph’s family extends a special thanks to Teresa, his caregiver, for her wonderful attention and kindness. She and Joe became “best buds”. A truly special person.
Cremation has taken place and a private family Celebration of Life will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to the Fr. Solanus Guild, 1780 Mt. Elliot Ave., Detroit, MI 48207 in his memory. Arrangements were entrusted to Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
