Joseph Gerald Riedel's Obituary
Joseph Gerald Riedel, age 87, of St. Clair, passed away peacefully at home with his loved ones. He was born December 2, 1936 at the family home in Richmond. He was the sixth of ten children born to the late Joseph and Irene Riedel. He married Carol FitzJohn on May 7, 1960.
A farmer at heart, and an opportunist who wasn’t afraid to take risks, he embarked on multiple different business ventures. Whether he was farming, cooking in the army, or running a restaurant or laundromat, he always had a practical solution to every problem.
In his younger years, he loved to play fast pitch softball, and everyone who saw him pitch said he was “the best around.” He was the head coach for the Lady Skipper Softball team at SCCC for a few years. Joe also enjoyed hunting, fishing, golfing, and playing cards. Through his many hobbies and business ventures he acquired a large circle of loyal friends.
He is survived by his wife; Carol Riedel, his daughter; Sara (Jason) Volpe and granddaughters; Anne, Margaret, and Elisabeth Volpe.
He is also survived by his favorite niece; Jill (John) Stockwell, his sister; Shirley Kessler, brother; David (Carolyn) Riedel, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
