Joseph Otto Achatz's Obituary
Joseph Otto Achatz, age 72, of Marine City, passed away December 16, 2025. He was born December 4, 1953 in Mt. Clemens to the late Joe and Mary Achatz. He married Brenda Whitis on July 21, 1979.
Joseph graduated from Holy Cross, class of 1972. He was the Head Prop Master at the Fisher Theatre, and in the IATSE Local 38 for 50 years.
He enjoyed wood making, musicals, and vacations. Joe is a loyal member of the Algonac Baptist Church.
Joseph was survived by his wife Brenda for 46 years, a loving father to his sons: Jim (Maria) and Joe (Michelle), and proud grandfather to Caleb and Chloe.
He is also survived by sister; Gayle (Mark) Walker, brothers; Calvin (Wynne) Achatz and Fred Achatz, brother in-law; Darrell Mayo, along with many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
Joe was blessed with a loving family. His joy was spending time with them and observing their growth and interest along the way. Fun and pride raising his boys Jim and Joe Alan. Joe and Brenda received so much in return and were so proud of the family their love produced. He was a gentle soul who could always rally for a bit of mischief with family and friends.
A few of his favorite hobbies were walking with his love Brenda, bird watching, and taming squirrels and feeding them. He enjoyed all things nature had to offer as a blessing. Joe could build anything and everything. He liked watching baseball, especially his grandson Caleb, volleyball was special too because his granddaughter Chloe played and his daughter-in-law coached. Football, dare I say the Lions, was a fun pastime. Traveling was also a fun time that he cherished with his wife, family, and friends. The ultimate gift of time well lived.
Preceded in death by his sister; Carrie Mayo.
A service at Algonac Baptist Church and Celebration of Life will be held at a later date.
Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
