John E. Gillman Sr.'s Obituary
John E. Gillman Sr., age 80, died July 2, 2011 after a long courageous battle with Parkinson's disease. John was born February 11, 1931 in St. Clair to the late Elden and Ruth (Halpin) Gillman. John was a lifelong resident of Marine City.
John married Marjorie Marks on June 23, 1956 at St. Edwards on the Lake Catholic Church in Lakeport. John worked for numerous contractors and for Automobile Transport Inc. and W.H. Froh Inc. John with his wife Margie owned and operated John Gillman Trucking Co. in Marine City.
John was a lifelong member of Holy Cross Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus Council #856 and Southeastern Michigan Conservation Club all of Marine City.
John enjoyed horse back riding, snowmobiling, Nascar races and camping with family and friends on his lot at Black River.
He is survived by Margie, his loving wife of 55 years, dear children; John Jr. (Connie) Gillman, Steven (Traci Fordt) Gillman and Julie (Bob) Mason, grandchildren; Josh (Kim) Likins, Jeanne (T.J.) Watkins, Jared, Jaleb, Jordan and Tyler Gillman, great grandchildren; Lila and Lincoln Watkins and Hunter Likins, sister; Carolyn (Earl) Fortner, sisters in law; Mary Gillman and Shirley Foltz, aunt; Sister Joy Halpin I.H.M. of Monroe and many wonderful nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
John was preceded in death by his parents, brother; Michael Gillman, sister in law; Jean Morrison and brother in law; Claire Foltz.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday July 6th at 11:00 a.m. at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. Interment will follow in Holy Cross Cemetery, Marine City. John's grandsons will serve as pallbearers. Visiting hours are Tuesday 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Wednesday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to the service.
