Mr. John T. Zimmer's Obituary
John T. Zimmer, age 64, of China Township, passed away on December 10, 2013. He was born in St. Clair, Michigan on March 4, 1949 to Nicholas and Anna Zimmer. John graduated from Holy Cross High School in 1967, served in the U.S. Air Force from 1968 to 1972 and the Air Force Reserves from 1972 to 1974. He was a member of the United Brotherhood of Carpenters and Joiners of America Local 0687 for 40 years. John was a lifetime area carpenter and served as a construction project manager prior to retirement. He loved fishing, hunting, gardening, cooking Cajun food and especially traveling with his beloved wife in their motorhome. He also loved to spend time with his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
John married his best friend and companion of 23 years, Marilyn Markel, on November 23, 2004 in New Orleans, Louisiana.
He is survived by his wife Marilyn and his children, Marcilynn (Dave) Misaros, Matthew (Jill) Zimmer, Michelle (Patrick) Kut and Amberly Zimmer (Jeremy Gepford); mother, Anna Macklem; grandchildren Ryan, Colin and Ashlyn Zimmer and Ethan and Adeline Kut; siblings Carolyn (Jessie) Parker, Nick Zimmer and Bill (Linda) Zimmer; In-laws Kenneth and Leona Markel; brothers-in-law Jim (Peggy), Larry (Sue) and Dennis Markel and Dennis Melczarczyk; sisters-in-law Linda (Tim) Mollan and Patty Cook and many loving nieces and nephews.
John was preceded in death by his father, Nicholas Zimmer, sister, Diane Melczarczyk and brother-in-law, Bob Cook.
Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 13th at 11:00am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in St. Clair.
Visiting will be Thursday, December 12th from 2pm to 8pm at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Friday, December 13th from 10am to 11am at St. Mary’s church prior to the service.
Burial will be in St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.
