John C. "Ballgame" Ladensack's Obituary
John C. “Ballgame” Ladensack, age 92, of Marine City, passed away peacefully at home October 8, 2018. He was born in Detroit, January 6, 1926, to the late Carl and Martha Ladensack.
John served in the U.S. Navy during World War II. He worked for the Detroit Gasket for many years, serving as union president of Local 1114 for 20 years.
John had a passion for sports, especially baseball and hockey. Following his service with the U.S. Navy, John signed a minor league contract with the Chicago White Sox. He shared his love of baseball with the many teams he played with and managed. John coached both baseball and football at Holy Cross School and was the longtime manager of Gar’s Maroons baseball team.
He is survived by his wife of 39 years, Pauline; children, Nancy (Jim) Cole, Jim Ladensack, Chuck (Judy) Ladensack and daughter-in-law, Leann Ladensack; step children, Bill Maitland, Suzanne Maitland, Tammi (Tom) Graber, Lynn (Keith) Defever, Rhonda (Richard) Diethelm, Andy (Karen) Maitland, Tom Maitland and Kathleen (Paul) Miotke; siblings, Anna Dandron and August (Carole) Ladensack, and many grandchildren and great grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his first wife, Anne; son, John D. Ladensack; brothers Carl, Duane, Joseph, and George Ladensack and sisters Dorothy Sumner, Mary Griffor, and Clara Lipa.
Funeral Mass will be 11 a.m. Friday, October 12th at Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Interment will be in Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting hours are Thursday 3 – 8 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Friday at church one hour prior to mass.
