John Keeling's Obituary
John Keeling age 87 of Fishers Indiana died October 13, 2015. He was born on October 29, 1927 in Portland Indiana to Forrest E. (M.D.) and Elsie (R.N.) Caster Keeling. He received his elementary school education in Portland Indiana.
In January 1941 when the Indiana National Guard was activated for federal service the Keeling family moved to Gulfport, Mississippi where Keeling attended and graduated from Gulf Coast Military Academy, class of 1945. He was then enlisted in the U.S. Army and was honorably discharged in 1947 with the rank of Staff Sergeant.
Keeling was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati. His degree was Bachelor of Business Administration. He was a member of Scabbard and Blade honorary; Alpha Kappa Psi, professional; and Sigma Alpha Epsilon social fraternities. Following graduation in 1950 he attended R.O.T.C. summer camp at Fort Meade Maryland and received his commission as a second lieutenant, artillery. During the Korean War he served in the U.S. Army for two years and was honorably discharged as a First Lieutenant in 1953.
Keeling married Margaret M. Slad in 1953, Gloria L. Nowak in 1961 and Roberta Kirchhoff-Duzan in 1998.
In 1953 Keeling owned and operated the Dairy Queen in Lebanon Indiana, and he worked as a staff auditor for CPA firms in Chicago and Indianapolis until entering the life insurance business in 1961.
Keeling represented American United Life (A.U.L.) insurance company and Indiana Consolidated insurance companies. He earned the designation Chartered Life Underwriter. He was licensed in Indiana to sell life, health, annuities, casualty & property insurance until 2001 at which time he retired. Keeling is survived by his children: Daniel (DVM) (wife, Catherine) Adamson, George (wife Janice) Adamson, and William F. (PhD, M.D.) (wife, Kathleen), 10 grandchildren and 4 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents Forrest and Elsie, his wives Margaret, Gloria and Roberta, his daughter Julie Ellyn Keeling, and his sisters Barbara Jean and Mary Jane Keeling.
