I have always considered Uncle John one of the most intelligent individuals I’ve ever known. Not just because he could do just about anything he set his mind to….whether it was building a biplane from parts or creating a fancy sports car or giving an old antique car new life. But on top of that, it was the wise choices he made in life. He chose an amazing woman when he married you Aunt Marilyn! No one could ever question the love you had for each other. Your lives displayed your love for all of us to see and emulate. You were a team that worked as one. It was always “John and Marilyn” or “Marilyn and John”, rather than “John” or “Marilyn”. This beautiful teamwork was especially evident when you were serving others. Whether it was caring and providing for Grandma Lomerson over all the years, or how beautifully and sacrificially you both gave your all to meet Cheryl’s physical needs with such tender love and grace. You were the perfect team! After my dad died, you were always there for my mom and us girls. We knew we could always count on the two of you. It was an easy decision for me to ask Uncle John to give me away at my wedding. I was proud to walk down the aisle with the man that I have always loved, admired and respected so much.
Several decades ago, another Chrysler executive told Fred that many Chrysler execs questioned Uncle John’s choice of putting family ahead of Chrysler. They felt that he could have advanced faster and farther if he had put his career over family….that he had so much potential. We all know….he made the right choice! He chose to serve the Lord, his wife, his family, and countless others over the corporate world. By choosing to enjoy an early retirement it gave him the time to not only explore his many hobbies, but to serve others. Which he did so selflessly!
Our hearts all were broken when we heard Uncle John was gone. It seemed to to us he should and would always be there. But, certainly a hint of joy emerged when I thought of the joyful reunion of Uncle John and Cheryl. So beautiful! We certainly had great family reunions in Michigan …..but nothing like those in Heaven.
So badly I desire to be there to hug you all and give honor and respect to Uncle John, but Fred and I love you too much to risk giving you this illness we brought home with us from Hawaii. We are praying for you and plan on coming up to spend some time reminiscing all our precious times together. God bless you all!
I love you so much Uncle John. You are the best!!
