Jerry L. Walker's Obituary
Jerry L. Walker ended his long battle peacefully on January 24, 2024, at the age of 79, surrounded by his wife, children, their spouses, grandchildren, nieces, nephews, and sister-in-law.
Born on November 8, 1944, in Detroit, Michigan, Jerry was the only son of Arlin "Corky" and Lula "Esther" Walker. Jerry was everyone's go-to guy when it came to cars and history – you name it, he knew it. His love for classic cars wasn't just about collecting them; he also piled up stacks of car magazines, soaking up every fact and figure from "Super Ford" and "Hot Rod" like a sponge. Hanging out with Jerry meant getting swept up in his enthusiasm for all things automotive. Jerry's passion for cars was infectious, especially during outings to the drag strip with his sons and grandchildren or while reveling in the camaraderie of the Woodward Dream Cruise—his personal "Super Bowl" of classic car events.
Outside of his 30+ year tenure with Mopar and his passion for cars, Jerry’s love for adventure extended to the waters. Boating on the Detroit River, Lake St. Clair, and the St. Clair River were cherished pastimes for him. His "old man" excursions—whether on water, at the racetrack, or cruising down the road—treated everyone to unforgettable stories and memories that endure through the years.
Jerry's larger-than-life presence will be profoundly missed by his family, close friends, and his beloved English Retriever, Molly. He was predeceased by his parents and son Michael (survived by Corie). His memories live on through his wife of nearly 59 years, Angie; sons Todd (Lisa), Matt, and Jason (Shannon); daughter Nikki (Chad); nine grandchildren: Anthony (Kristen), Alex (Kelly), Savannah, Sierra, Hunter, Aiden, Kaylen, Nicholas, and Kennedy; as well as many nieces, nephews, brothers-in-law, and sisters-in-law.
