Jay Louis "J-Bird Gilbert's Obituary
Jay Louis “J-bird” Gilbert, age 79, of Cottrellville Twp., passed away at home November 2, 2024 with his loving family at his side. Jay was born August 17, 1945 in St. Clair to the late George and Esther Gilbert.
On September 8, 1967, Jay married Sandra Conley at Holy Cross Catholic Church and they enjoyed 57 years of marriage. Jay was employed for 30 years with Ironworkers Local 25. He retired at age 48 for only a few short days before heading back to work for Riverside Spline and Gear, where he worked for over 10 years.
As a youth in high school, Jay was a 3 sport athlete, playing baseball, basketball and football. Later in life, Jay became an avid golfer. He would look forward to spending time with his friends on the course. Jay’s greatest treasure in life was his family. Jay’s wife, children and grandchildren each carry special shared moments with Jay close to their heart. One of these special moments was the hours Jay would spend walking his son’s dog, So And So. Jay’s gentle spirit will be cherished forever by his loving family and friends.
Jay is survived by his wife, Sandra Gilbert; children, Matthew (Jessie) Gilbert and Stephanie (Chris) Smith; grandchildren, Hannah Psink, Ella Gilbert, Jack Psink and Sydney Smith; brother, Lorne (Donna) Gilbert; brother in law, Jim (Halina) Conley and sister in law, Mugsy Gilbert.
Jay was predeceased by his son, Michael Gilbert; brothers, Roy (Helen Joy) Gilbert and Carl Gilbert and father in law and mother in law, Melvin and Betty Ann Conley.
A Memorial Service will be held Friday, November 29th at 3:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Visiting hours will be prior to the service from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m.
