James Ross Seegert's Obituary
James Ross Seegert, age 87, of St. Clair, passed away peacefully after a long illness surrounded by his family. He was born on January 8, 1938 to the late William and Gladys Seegert. When Jim was in high school, he worked as a caddy at Beverly Golf Course in Chicago, that summer job led him to being a Evans Scholar, where he was selected for a scholarship to the University of Michigan. Jim earned his Masters Degree from U of M. While he was working on his thesis for his PhD in Mathematics, he was offered a position at General Motors to which he accepted. Through hard work and dedication, Jim worked his way up the ranks, retiring as an Executive at GM after 33 years of employment. He married Emily Seegert in 1963, who preceded him in death in 1993. He later married Nancy Seegert, who also preceded him in death in 2009. Jim was an advocate for the Humane Society and was a member of ASQC (American Society for Quality Control). In his spare time, Jim enjoyed watching freighters and boating on his 1978 Grady White. He was intrigued by the railroads, especially steam locomotives. Jim was an active outdoorsman, he enjoyed kayaking, and riding bikes. He would ride 20 miles a day on his bike into his early 80s. Jim also was an accomplished Pianist, playing classical music. He truly cherished the time he spent with his family, especially at their cabin on the south channel on Harsens Island.
He is survived by his children, Peter Seegert, Christopher (Michelle) Seegert, Katherine (Christopher) Nevedal; step children, Scott (Stacey) Westrick, Amanda (Bill) Stamplis; grandchildren, Alec and Riley Nevedal, Taylor, Kent, Scott Jr. Westrick, Kayla (Eli) Gardner and Allie Stamplis; sister, Judith (the late Morgan) Finley; niece and nephews, Jennifer Besimer, Frederic (Julie) Besimer, Matthew (Tara) Farmer and Patrick Finley.
Cremation arrangements with Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A celebration of life will take place on Thursday,January 30th from 4-8pm at Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
