James F. Scully (Jim)'s Obituary
Scully, James F. (Jim), age 95, passed on to be with Our Lord on Thursday, Feb. 23, 2023. He was born to John W. Scully and Florence Scully in Detroit, MI. Jim graduated from Denby High School in 1945, was drafted into the U.S. Army, and served overseas in the Medical Corps at the Army hospital in Wiesbaden, near Frankfurt, Germany during World War II.
Returning home early in 1947, he attended Michigan State Normal College in Ypsilanti for one year. He then worked for Chrysler Corp., and in Sept. 1951 married Charlotte Masse (deceased in 1974). He began his career building and designing custom homes in St. Clair Shores, Clinton Twp., Harrison Twp., Macomb County, New Baltimore, St. Clair, and more.
He married Thelma Low Newsted on July 10, 1976, and they spent nearly 47 great years together. Jim retired in 1991 and they lived on the St. Clair River in East China Twp., MI, enjoying the scenery, ships, and boats with dear family and friends. He greatly enjoyed golf, boating, flying his own Comanche airplane, and spending winter months in Naples, FL, for over 30 years.
Jim is survived by his beloved wife, Thel, his three dear daughters Debbie (Dr. Mike) Eichenhorn, Charleen (Bill) McKay, Linda Hartman, and stepdaughter Linda Newsted (Steve Hatzai); 7 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren; and brother John. He was predeceased by sisters Peggy and Laverne, granddaughter Stephanie, and half-brother Bill.
Cremation has taken place with final resting place in Hillside Cemetery in St. Clair, MI. A memorial gathering of family and friends will be held in June 2023.
Jim was a strong, good, loving and loyal son, brother, husband, father, grandfather and great-grandfather, and he will be greatly missed.
