Mr. James J. Frye's Obituary
James Joseph Frye, age 67, of East China Twp. passed away suddenly Sunday, September 28, 2014 at St. John Hospital and Medical Center, Detroit. Jim was born to the late Paul and Phyllis (Valla) Frye on July 29, 1947 in St. Clair. He married Jeannine Fassnacht on September 12, 1969. They celebrated 45 years of marriage this year.
He attended Holy Cross Schools and graduated in 1965. He served in the United States Air Force Reserves. He received his bachelor's degree at Central Michigan University and attended University of Michigan School of Banking. He began his banking career at Commercial & Savings Bank, St. Clair, in 1971. He also worked at Michigan National Bank and several mortgage lending companies. Jim also owned Paul's True Value Hardware Store in St. Clair and enjoyed his visits with his customers very much. In his retirement he was known as the "greeter" at St. John's River District Hospital Emergency Room and he drove cars for St. Clair Chevy.
He was very active in the Knights of Columbus Marine City Council 856 and 4th degree Richmond Assembly 0480 serving as Grand Knight and District Deputy. He also enjoyed his time serving on the East China Township Parks and Recreation Board.
Most of all he was known as the "bike man" . His interest in repairing bikes began at an early age. He could build and repair any kind of bike. If he couldn't fix it, he would research the problem and fix it.
He is survived by his wife; Jeannine Frye, son; Jason Frye (Alyssa Kozak), daughter; Lesley Frye (Mike Henry), granddaughter; Brooklyn Grace Frye who was the " love of his life", and his furry friend; Harley.
He is also survived by his sister; Anna (Sid) Browne and her children; Phillip(Phyllis) Browne and Julie (Dave) Delor, and Jeannine's sisters children; Christopher Burton and Michelle (Steve) Prothero, and great nieces and nephews; Austin Prothero, Evan Prothero, Nikolaus Burton, Reese Adamczyk, Reagan Adamczyk, Amelia Delor, Rowan Delor, Emma Browne, Ellie Browne, and Jimmy Browne, and many aunts, uncles, cousins, and friends.
A funeral mass will be held on Friday at 11:30 a.m. at Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Visiting hours will be Thursday from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Friday from 10:30 a.m. to 11:30 a.m. at church prior to the service. A rosary will be said at 7:00 p.m. Thursday evening.
