James T. Bennett Sr.'s Obituary
James T. Bennett Sr., age 85, of St. Clair passed away peacefully at his home with his loving wife at his side on August 2, 2022. Jim was born February 7, 1937 in Detroit to the late George and Jean Bennett. On November 25, 1961 Jim married Ann Schmidt in St. Clair.
Jim proudly served his country with the United States Army from 1955 to 1958. His commitment to service continued, serving with the St. Clair Volunteer Fire Department for over 30 years. Jim had a long career as a custom drywaller and retired from the local carpenter’s union. When not working or volunteering, Jim enjoyed restoring antique cars, bowling or golfing, but his favorite pastime was being with family attending his grandchildren’s sporting events.
He is survived by his wife of 60 years, Ann Bennett; children, James Jr. (Sandy) Bennett, Jody (Scot) Britz, Jay (Carrie) Bennett and Jill Marie (Jon) Tobey; grandchildren, Bennett (Chethana) Britz, Brianna (Brett) Swantek, Jay Jr. (Katie) Bennett, Brooke (Mitch) Israel, Jared (Allison) Tobey and Adam (Claire) Tobey; great grandchildren, Luke David Swantek and Blaire Marie Tobey; sisters, Donna Johnson (late husband, Jake Johnson) and Toni (Pete) Miller; sister in law, Carol Fletcher and nieces and nephews.
Jim was predeceased by siblings, Bud, Connie and Carol.
Visiting hours are Wednesday August 3rd from 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. A private interment service will be held at St. Mary’s Cemetery, St. Clair.
