James G. Atkins' Obituary
James G. Atkins, age 59, of St. Clair, passed away in the comfort of his own home on January 28, 2024. He was born on June 2, 1964 to the late James E. Atkins and Frances Fougnie. James honorably served his country in the United States Navy for 5 years. On February 28, 1987 he married the love of his life Mary Jo Zambrano. Mary Jo, loved James with all of her heart, he made her a better person, and she is forever grateful for that. James was an avid golfer, and especially enjoyed bowling. He was in bowling leagues for many years in Viking Lanes and then Port Huron Lanes. He enjoyed camping, traveling the United States and the Caribbean. He truly cherished the time he spent with his family, especially taking his grandchildren to Cedar Point, a trip they looked forward to every year. He retired from DTE after many years of service.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Mary Jo; sons, Claudio Garcia, Justin Murch; grandchildren, Keene Garcia, Adrien Garcia, Rhiannon S. Murch, Illyanna S. Murch; siblings, Carol Jean (Bob) Rodriguez, Rick Dafoe, Barbara Atkins; special friends, Scott (Leslie) Victory, Billy Piper; godson, Conner Victory; faithful companions, Cooper, Chico, Chula, as well as several other family members and friends.
He is preceded in death by his siblings, Sharon Dupee, Ronald Dafoe, Connie Smith.
A funeral service will take place on Friday, February 2nd at 1:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Visiting hours will be on Friday from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service. Interment and military honors will take place immediately following the service at Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair. Memorials are suggested to the American Legion Post 382, St. Clair.
