Irene M. "Yvonne" Shagena's Obituary
Irene M. "Yvonne" Shagena, age 82, of East China, died August 1, 2011 surrounded by her children. She was born November 13, 1928 to the late Alidor and Alicia Goethals. She married Donald Shagena on September 20, 1952 in St. Clair. He preceded her in death on October 11, 1990. She enjoyed gardening and canning the fruits and vegtables of her labor. She retired from MacDonald's Manufacturing in New Baltimore as "Inspector 12" after 28 years of service. Upon her retirement she enjoyed her employment at Mallard's Landing in the kitchen and dining room from the age of 65 to 80. She was a member of Holy Cross Catholic Church and the League of Catholic Women.
She is survived by her children; Sue(Dave) Deitrick, Wayne Shagena ( Deanna Delikta) grandchildren; Daniel and Don Deitrick, Jeffery Wayne Shagena, Jennifer Lynn Shagena (Ron) Mota, and five great-grandchildren. She is also survived by a sister; Hilda (Carl) Beauvais. She is preceded in death by a sister; Clara Distelrath and brothers; George and Gaston Goethals.
Services will be held Thursday, August 4 at 10:15 a.m. at Young Funeral Home and at 11:00 a.m. at Our Lady on the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. Interment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery. Visiting hours will be Wednesday from 2:00 to 4:00 p.m. and 6:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m. at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp. www.youngcolonial.com
