Howard S. Silk's Obituary
Howard S. Silk, age 84, of St. Clair Twp., died May 11, 2010 after a brief illness. He was born October 25, 1925 in Columbus Twp., to Miles and Hazel. He served with the U.S. Navy during World War II and witnessed the raising of the flag at Iwo Jima.
Howard Silk married Doris Welser on May 17, 1947.
Mr. Silk along with his wife Doris owned and operated Silks Flower Shop in St. Clair for over 25 years.
He was a longtime active member of Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Clair.
He was Past President of the St. Clair Rotary Club and was currently serving as trustee with the St. Clair Township Board, a position he has held since 1988, he was also currently serving on the township planning commission.
He is survived by his wife of 63 years Doris Silk, children; Norm Silk of Detroit, Jan Silk of Port Huron, Kathy (Denny) Hillman of Port Huron.
Granddaughters; Heather and Megan Hillman, sister Dorothy Fasbender and brother Dale Silk.
He was preceded in death by a brother; Robert Silk and sister Phyllis Hamilton.
Services will be held Friday at 10:30 a.m. at Immanuel Lutheran Church, St. Clair. Visiting hours are Wednesday 5:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Thursday 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Twp., and Friday 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. at the church prior to the service. www.youngcolonial.com
