Henry Ward "Woody" Flemming Jr.'s Obituary
Henry Ward “Woody” Flemming, Jr., age 74, a lifelong resident of Marine City passed away on Wednesday, October 25, 2023 at home in the care of his children.
Woody was born on March 26, 1949 in St. Clair, MI the son of Henry Ward, Sr. and Virginia Marion (King) Flemming. He was a graduate of Marine City High School with the Class of 1967. Woody was a proud Mariner, during his school years he played baseball and football. He was a talented athlete and has a place in the Marine City Athletic Hall of Fame. Dedication and sportsmanship was something he learned at an early age and exemplified this his whole life.
For many years, he worked for Consumers Energy and retired on April 1, 2009. Over the years, he has enjoyed playing hockey, softball, golf and bowling. Playing softball on the Gord’s Bar Orange Team made many memories and cherished friendships. Weekly golf outings, annual golf trips and playing in numerous tournaments and scrambles with friends were some of his favorite times. There was never a shortage of stories to be shared over a few Budweisers. Good times with good friends make the best memories.
Woody will be dearly missed by his children: Angela (Jon) VanCore, Andrea Flemming and Henry Ward “Woody” Flemming, III; his grandchildren: Ryan (Stephanie Partlo) Terhune, Brandon Smith, Zach (Madeline Robbins) Morris, Hannah Morris, Jon VanCore, Nick (Becky) VanCore and Autumn (Ale’) VanCore; great grandchildren, Alyssa, Riley, Aubrey, Skylar, Carter and Ellie; mother of his children, Mary Zimmer; brother-in-law, Denny (Ellen) Dudzinski; nieces, Jennifer (Darryl) Franzel, Becky (Chris) Schaft; great nephew, Luke Schaft; the LaBuhn family and many many friends. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Sharon (LaBuhn) Flemming; grandson, Chad (Alicia Froias) Morris; sister Barbara Dudzinski and close friend, Mike Senger.
Funeral services will be held Monday, October 30th at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Marine City. Visiting hours are Sunday 2:00 to 4:00 and 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
