Harrietta R. Ryan's Obituary
Harrietta passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Palm Sunday, March 29, 2026. She was born on April 11, 1930 in St. Clair, Michigan to Harry Sherwood Recor and Dorothy Mae Wolvin.
Harrietta graduated from Central Michigan University with a teaching degree. While raising her four daughters by herself, she taught nursery school as she went back to college to update her teaching degree. Harrietta taught first grade for nearly 30 years in the East China School District at Washington Elementary School in Marine City. She was well loved by her students and they still remembered her years later.
Harrietta was a member of the First Congregational Church in St. Clair from her childhood until her death. She loved the Lord and rarely missed church. It’s because of her example many followed in her footsteps. She was the most selfless person we ever knew, always putting everyone ahead of herself.
Harrietta is survived by her daughters, Jamie (Bob) Williams, Abby Thourlby, and Nana Black; grandchildren, Jason (Gretchen) Williams, Christine Williams, Robb (Sharon) Black and Brendan Black; great grandchildren, Austin, Johnny, Anthony, and Zariah. She is predeceased by her daughter Liza Thourlby and her granddaughter, Carrie Williams.
There will be a ceremony in the Chapel at Hillside Cemetery in St. Clair for family and friends on Friday, May 8, 2026, at 11:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers donations to the Humane Society may be made in Harrietta’s honor.
