H. Richard "Dick" Allen's Obituary
H.Richard “Dick” Allen, age 85, of St. Clair, passed away May 7, 2023. He was born December 17, 1937 in Evansville, Indiana to the late Hollie and Pearl Allen.
He married Elizabeth “Betty” Jarrell on August 15, 1959 in Paris, Illinois.
He earned his Bachelor of Science in Education from Eastern Illinois University in 1959. Dick earned his Master Degree in Education in 1966 from Eastern Michigan University.
He taught at St. Clair Junior High School from 1960 to 1994, teaching primarily geography, history and English.
Spending time with his family meant everything to him. He loved to read and enjoyed playing bridge, attending the Indianapolis 500, gardening and hiking. He also enjoyed traveling with Betty, they traveled to Europe in 1974 and upon retirement took many trips and Caribbean cruises, highlighted by the transit of the Panama Canal in 2004 and a trip to Alaska.
He was a member of First United Methodist Church, St. Clair, Evergreen #9 Free and Accepted Masons, Mayflower Society through John Howland and First Families of Ohio.
He is survived by his wife; Betty Allen, his children; Cheri (Jeff) Nichols and Reid (Renee) Allen. He is also survived by his grandchildren; Justin (Sadie) Wastell, Tim (Lydia) Wastell, Lindsay Kornik, Kat Westrick and Harrison Allen, his great-grandchildren; Everly and Frankie Wastell, along with his nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his brother in-law; James C. Jarrell and sister in-law; Sallie Wade.
Funeral service will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Saturday, May 13 at Young Funeral Home, China Twp.
Visiting hours will be Friday from 4:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Saturday one hour prior to service. Masonic memorial service will take place at 7:00 p.m. Friday evening.
