Gregory E. Towne's Obituary
Gregory E. Towne, age 75, of East China, passed away peacefully at home on January 12, 2022. He was born December 11, 1946 in Pontiac to the late Ralph and June Towne.
He proudly served his country during the Vietnam War with the U.S. Navy. After serving his country he graduated from the University of Michigan with a B.S. in Civil Engineering. On September 1, 1994 he married Carol Thiele in Florida.
Greg was president of Widell, Inc. in Fort Lauderdale, FL., specializing in the construction of water treatment plants and sewage treatment plants. Upon his return to Michigan and retiring he stayed very active. He worked as East China Twp. clerk, was on the Board of Directors for the St. Clair Art Association, was a woodturning artist and belonged to the Blue Water Area Woodturners. He also worked as a bus driver for RESA, Richmond schools, and East China School District that he really enjoyed.
He enjoyed woodturning, sailing, and walking his dog Mr. Big Red.
He is survived by his wife; Carol Towne, his sisters; Terri (Rob) Brooks and Debbie Torres, along with his nieces, nephew and friends.
A memorial mass will be held at 11:00 a.m. on Wednesday, January 26 at Our Lady On the River Parish, Holy Cross Catholic Church, Marine City. The family will receive visitors from 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to mass. Memorials are suggested to Blue Water Area Humane Society.
