Glen Alan Porrett's Obituary
Glen Alan Porrett, age 81, of Richmond, passed away January 21, 2023. Glen was born September 20, 1941 in Mt. Clemens to the late Otto and Lois Porrett. On August 21, 1965 Glen married Diane Traub in Allenton and they enjoyed 56 years of marriage. Diane preceded Glen in death on February 26, 2022.
Glen graduated from Mt. Clemens High School in 1959. He later worked for Pontiac Motors for 30 years retiring in 1992. Following retirement Glen continued to volunteer and work within his community. He was a volunteer with Richmond Softball as a coach and equipment manager. Glen was an active member of the First United Church of Christ, Richmond, where he volunteered as their custodian, served on church council, was their annual auctioneer, and was especially proud of the Christmas dinner he and his wife, Diane, started at the church years ago, serving meals to those that were spending the holiday alone. Glen also served civically with Richmond Township as their Blight Enforcement Officer and assisted with the annual Liquor License Ordinance requirements. He also volunteered with Richmond Cable TV. Glen taught small engine repair in the JEEP Program with the Macomb County Youth Home. He formerly worked at Rewalt Funeral Home in Richmond and in recent years at Young Funeral Home in China Twp.
Recreationally Glen loved camping with his family and did so for many years. He also enjoyed bowling, golfing and repairing anything from weed whackers to lawn mowers.
Glen also enjoyed spending some of his downtime watching YouTube, the trucking and farming shows were among his favorites and cheering on the Detroit Lions. Glen was a big Richmond Blue Devil supporter and loved attending his grandchildren’s sporting events. Glen led a life that touched many people and he and his wonderful stories will be greatly missed.
Glen is survived by his daughters, Jennifer (Lantz) Northam and Justine Achatz; grandchildren, Shane, Logan, Jacob, Carissa, Paul and Alyson and brother in law, Thomas Traub and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his sister, Marilyn Puffpaff.
Funeral services will be held Saturday January 28th at 11:00 a.m. at the First United Church of Christ, Richmond. Visiting hours are Friday 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Saturday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at church prior to service. Interment will be in West Berlin Cemetery, Allenton.
