Gerald "Jerry" Markel's Obituary
Gerald “Jerry” Markel, age 67, of Marine City, passed away unexpectedly on August 23, 2024. He was born January 15, 1957 in St. Clair to the late Charles and Betty Markel.
On April 26, 1980 Jerry married Darlene Cohrs in Marine City and they enjoyed 44 years of marriage. Jerry was a well known employee of the East China School District for over 30 years. Following retirement he enjoyed working for an additional 11 years at St. Clair Chrysler. He was a member of the Fraternal Order of the Eagles, Fair Haven and the Knights of Columbus, Council #856 Marine City. Being an active member of the Water Warriors (Special Olympics) always held a special place in Jerry’s heart.
Jerry enjoyed gardening and visiting with friends, but nothing compared to the love he shared when he was with his grandchildren. Jerry’s jolly personality will be forever remembered by his family and dear friends.
Jerry is survived by his wife, Darlene Markel; children, Jason (Rachel) Markel and Viann Markel; grandchildren, Johnathan, Autumn and Colton Markel; siblings, Margie Osterland and Charles (Sandi) Markel; dear niece, Tracy Cohrs and many other nieces, nephews and great nieces and nephews.
Jerry was predeceased by siblings, Charlotte, Joe and Dale Markel.
Funeral services will be held Thursday, August 29th at 11:00 a.m. at St. Clair First Global Methodist Church. Interment will be in Woodlawn Cemetery, Marine City. Visiting hours are Wednesday 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Thursday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. at church prior to service.
