Gerald Glen Erickson's Obituary
Gerald (Jerry) Glen Erickson, age 94, of St. Clair, Michigan, passed away peacefully, leaving behind a legacy of devotion to family, community, and the joy of life.
Jerry was born in Detroit to Glen and Agnes where he attended and graduated from Denby High School class of 1950. As a young man he moved to St. Clair, having purchased a farm. On May 28, 1960, he married Carol McEachin, his beloved wife, who preceded him in death in 2019. Together, they built a full and meaningful life centered on family, hard work, and community.
He was the loving father of Amy Erickson and Alan (Janice) Erickson, and the proud grandfather of Alicia and Andrew. His family will remember him for his enthusiasm of life, creativity, generous spirit, and deep affection for those closest to him. Jerry loved to bring joy to others through humor, entertainment, and generosity.
His devotion to his grandchildren was unmeasurable. Jerry and Carol spent years traveling across town to spend time with Alicia and Andrew weekly. There was always fun at the house when Popsie and Moppie were around.
Jerry worked for 40 years at Michigan Bell Telephone Company. Beyond his career, he gave generously of his time to the community with the Telephone Pioneers of America service organization, served on the Board of Directors for the Muttonville Farmers’ Cooperative (Co-Op), coached and umpired St. Clair Little League (girls and boys), and volunteered at River District Hospital.
As a young family man, Jerry enjoyed raising his family along with pigs, cattle and crops on his farm. Later in life he enjoyed traveling and participating in senior bowling and golf leagues in St. Clair. He even spent some time working at McDonalds enjoying the employee food allowance and his coworkers.
Jerry was a passionate University of Michigan football fan and 45-year season ticket holder. He attended every home game in addition to traveling to numerous Rose Bowls and UM games in Illinois, Florida and Hawaii. He was always ready with a “Go Blue” for a fellow fan. When UM wasn’t playing football, the Detroit Tigers were his next favorite team to follow. He watched every game.
Jerry’s life was marked by dedication—to his family, his work, his farm, his community, and his beloved Wolverines. He will be deeply missed and fondly remembered by all who knew him.
Celebration of life services for Jerry will be Monday June 29th at 1:00 pm at Young Colonial Chapel Funeral Home, China Township. Interment will be Hillside Cemetery, St. Clair. Visiting hours are Sunday June 28th, 2-8 pm and Monday June 29th, 12-1 pm.
