George Edward Stephenson III's Obituary
George Edward Stephenson III, age 74, of China Twp., passed away April 12, 2021 at Sarasota Memorial Hospital due to complications from Covid-19. He was born September 18, 1946 to George and Dorothy Stephenson of Marine City. On November 29, 1969 George married Beth Simmons at Holy Cross Catholic Church.
George worked for Daimler Chrysler for 37 years before retiring in 2001. He was a proud member of the UAW Local 140. George honorably served his country for four years with the United States Navy during the Vietnam Era. He was an active member of the Fred Quandt VFW Post 3901, Algonac and was a member of the American Legion and the Tin Can Sailors Squadron of Venice, Florida.
George was an avid outdoorsman that loved to hunt and fish with his sons and grandson. He was also a longtime coach and board member of the Marine City Little League. He earned a place in the Marine City High School Athletics Hall of Fame in 1995 for his efforts with the Marine City Boosters Club. George enjoyed being involved with Marine City kids and athletics. Most of all he will be remembered as a great husband, son, father, grandfather, great grandfather, brother, uncle and friend.
He is survived by his wife of 51 years, Beth Stephenson; mother, Dorothy Stephenson; sons, George IV (Carrie) and Jeremy (Carrie); grandchildren, George V (Hayley), Riley and Bradley; great granddaughter, Blair; brothers, Victor (Bernadette) of Millican, Colorado and John (Terry) of Marine City; brother in law and sister in law, Dennis (Terry) Simmons of Venice, Florida and Lynda (C.G.) Collins of Campbellsville, Kentucky and many nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
He was preceded in death by his father, George Jr. and father in law and mother in law, Lloyd and Kay Simmons.
A funeral mass will be held Friday June 4th at 12:30 p.m. at Holy Cross Catholic Church, OLR Parish, Marine City. Visiting hours are Thursday June 3rd, 2:00 to 8:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. and Friday 11:30 to 12:30 at church prior to mass. Urn interment will be in Great Lakes National Cemetery, Holly, Michigan.
