George Saunders' Obituary
George Saunders, age 93, of St. Clair, passed away February 8, 2018. George was born December 28, 1924 to the late Finley and Anna (Dudd) Saunders. On September 30, 1945 George married Cecilia Pauly. They enjoyed 61 years of marriage before her passing in 2006.
George sailed the Great Lakes as a young man. Following sailing he started Saunders Construction, which he owned and operated for 40 years. Among some of George’s favorite pastimes were hunting, fishing, and reading. He also loved playing cards. His kitchen table was home to many lively card games and great friends. For more than 20 years George and Ceil would travel to Arizona for the winter months. George also had a great passion for horses and would occasionally bet on the ponies. He was also a lifetime member of the Knights of Columbus, St. Clair Council 2251.
He is survived by his children, Marie, Cindy, Larry (Terri) and Steve (Gina); grandchildren, JoAnn and Eric Kwasnik, Daniel and Kristy Pieprzak, Justin (Amanda) Saunders, Brooke Saunders, Jacob and Michael Moore and Evan and Tristan Saroli; great grandchildren, Carly and Chelsea Pieprzak and great great grandson, Dexter Moore; siblings, William Saunders, Paul (Clarice) Saunders, Eleanor Angove, Margaret Sedwick, Phyllis (Thomas) Gates, Janet (Bud) Sebastian and Robert (Jan) Saunders and many cousins, nieces, nephews, dear friends and his buddy Oliver.
In addition to his wife, Ceil, George was preceded in death by a son, George Dennis; daughter, Becky Denise; brothers, Gerald (Marie) and Norman (Sarah); sister, Mary (Don) Kasbohm; brothers in law, Ernest Angove and Donald Sedwick and sister in law, Barbara Saunders.
Funeral services will be Monday February 12th at 11:00 a.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. Interment will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, St. Clair. Visiting hours are Sunday 3:00 to 8:00 p.m. and Monday 10:00 to 11:00 a.m. prior to service.
