George B. Hoyer's Obituary
George B. Hoyer, age 93, of Marine City, passed away March 17, 2022. He was born September 22, 1928 in Detroit to the late George and Dolores Hoyer.
George proudly served his country at the end of World War II. He joined the Army Air Corp in September of 1946 and was honorably discharged from the Air Force in February of 1953. Following his military service, George immediately went to work with Chris Craft in 1953 and retired in 1986.
George was raised a Master Mason in 1953 and was a member of the Scottish Rite and Eastern Star. He also served as Worshipful Master in 1960 and 2018. In his community George served with the Marine City Planning Commission, enjoyed activities and fellowship at the Washington Life Center and was an avid golfer and bowler. George also enjoyed watching the freighters, and loved sharing information about their length, what they carried and where they were headed.
He married Edith Warner and they enjoyed 65 years of marriage before her passing in 2014. He later married Irene Kotas on June 22, 2019.
George is survived by his wife, Irene Kotas; daughter, Georgia (Robin) Hooker; son, Robert A. (Bonnie) Hoyer; grandson, Willliam (Lisa) Laidlaw; great grandchildren, Liam Laidlaw and Brooke Emerson; step-children, Lisa Fischer, Michael (Nancy) Handy, Dean (Janet) Handy and Donald (Robin) Handy and many loving nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his sister, Jean McDonough.
Funeral service will be held Sunday, March 20th at 6:00 p.m. at Young Funeral Home, China Twp. followed by Military Honors and the Masonic Memorial Ceremony. Visitation hours are Sunday prior to services 1:00 to 6:00 p.m.
