Genevieve Siudym's Obituary
Genevieve Siudym, age 89, of Columbus Twp., peacefully went to be with the Lord on May 3rd, 2023. She was born on August 30, 1933 to the late Joseph and Kate Karas. Genevieve began working as a waitress at a restaurant in Muttonville. Where her and a friend would walk to work. It was there where she met her future husband, George. George and Genevieve married on May 3rd, 1952. George preceded her in death in 1983.
Genevieve worked as a caterer for Achatz Catering with her sister Irene for 34.5 years. Following her time at Achatz Catering, she went on and worked with Dave and Wendy at Achatz Pie Company for another 3 to 4 years. Genevieve was a longtime, active member at St. Philip Neri Church, Columbus Twp. She would cook for various church activities and events, including the confirmation dinners, as well as cook for various priests at monthly meetings. She was an avid Detroit Tigers fan, and she enjoyed spending time in her garden. Above all, she cherished the time she spent with her family; she especially loved spoiling her grandchildren and great grandchildren.
She is survived by her children, Mary (David Sr.) Shillingburg, Martha (David) Gutowski, Georgine Siudym; grandchildren, David Jr. (Melanie) Shillingburg, Eric (Misty) Shillingburg, Michael (Diana Jowett) Gutowski, Amy (Pat Plonka) Gutowski; great grandchildren, Brian, Dustin, Sabrina, Samantha, Hunter Shillingburg, Addie Plonka, as well as several other family members and friends.
She is preceded in death by her siblings, Joseph Karas, Irene Achatz, and Delores Ellis.
A funeral mass will be Monday, May 8th at 11:00 a.m. at Holy Family, Memphis. Visiting hours will be Sunday, May 7th from 3:00 p.m. to 8:00 p.m. as well as one hour prior to the mass at church on Monday. A rosary will be recited on Sunday at 6:30 p.m. Memorials are suggested to Blue Water Hospice, Holy Family Church, Memphis, or St. Augustine School.
